US Army "Dining Out" dinner

My sister's husband (Lee, a.k.a Guy) is in the Army and every year they have what's called a "Dining Out" party. Guy is kind of in charge of putting it together and this year they invited John & I to come so I could take pictures. So last Friday we both left work early to head up to Hill Air Force Base. My sister told me it was formal and John had to wear a tie & jacket. But I didn't know it was like Prom formal. I got there and everyone was dressed like Prom. I felt a little underdressed LOL. But it was a lot of fun and VERY entertaining!! Throughout dinner they did a dialogue that centered around what's called "The Grog". Every table had a "part" that they had to read and it ended with putting something, usually a bottle of some type of alcohol, into the Grog. So the Grog ended up having every kind of alcohol you could imagine mixed in. After everything was put into the Grog, each unit did a "skit/song" and it usually ended with them "being sent to the Grog" meaning they had to take a drink. And every once in a while, a commanding officer or someone high up would send someone to "The Grog". It was like a punishment, but not really. It was mostly coming up with any kind of excuse to be "sent to the Grog" just so you could have a drink LOL. Then every table got a pitcher of "The Grog" but of course I couldn't drink it which was fine because I could smell it a mile away and it didn't smell too pleasant. I could almost taste it the smell was that strong. John and the others at our table drank it and I had lemonade. It was a good time with dancing afterwards and we can't wait to go again next year!! Thanks Leigh & Guy!! It was a........memorable evening :)

We're having a BOY!!

Today we had our ultrasound to finally find out the sex of our baby. I haven't really had a preference, but John was hoping for a girl. He even picked out a pink outfit, with pink shoes and pink purse for me to wear, just to try and push things in that direction. The pressure has been on to have a girl ever since we told everyone about the baby. I have 9 nephews and no neices. (This is the first grandchild in John's family). So when we heard the words, "It's a baby boy", we were so overwhelmed with emotion looking at the monitor and seeing our baby that we were filled with excitement!! It was one of the most amazing moments of my life :) However, I did make the Dr check 3 times to make sure it really was a boy. So she checked & showed me 3 times and said it's definately a boy. But everything looks good and normal. I am 20 weeks and due October 3rd. The only thing that makes me sad is that my dad isn't here to share the news with. I very much wanted to call him and tell him he's having grandson #10. But it's comforting to know that he is with my baby boy right now :)

Mom's Day part II

My Mother’s Day started Friday. John took me to dinner at Biaggi’s at The Gateway and then to the “Under the Sea” IMAX 3D show at the Clark Planetarium. I’ve wanted to see it for a long time so I was pretty excited. I LOVED IT! Sunday, John’s dad took us all to the “Mother’s Day Buffet” at Gardner Village. It was a huge buffet and my favorite part was…..the chocolate fountain!! Even though I dropped a chocolate strawberry on my white shirt ;) LOL. Afterwards we went home and I opened my presents. I got a much needed gift card to Sego Lily Spa (my favorite), a cute stuffed Lion and baby math books for our new little baby.
I then traveled to Santaquin to my step-dad’s to give Suzanne her Mother’s Day present. My dad made all the mother’s breakfast but I missed it :( Sorry dad, next year I’ll be there! Then I stopped at my mom Pam’s to wish her Happy Mother’s Day. We celebrated her Mother’s Day yesterday but I had to at least give her a hug. We then went to my mom’s for a BBQ up Provo Canyon. It was nice weather and was relaxing to just hang out with the family. My nephews played with Homer J & Amos and wore them out which was nice. It was especially nice to be with my mom who I haven’t seen much of the last few months as I spent every spare moment with my dad. Thanks mom for being patient and understanding. You are the greatest mom and I hope I can be as great of a mom to my baby as you are to me. You are my movie & traveling companion, and my best friend. I love you SO much!

Mom's Day part I

Saturday my brothers & sisters and I got together and did some house projects and yard work for my mom Pam. My dad used to like doing yard work, but now that he’s gone, its up to us. We started early and mowed the massive front & back lawn (which was a jungle); planted flowers; built garden boxes so my mom can start a garden; sanded the front of the house and re-painted it; cleaned up the yard; fixed the dining room chairs; and installed base boards. It was an all day project but we got it done and it looked awesome! My dad would be so proud of us :) Happy Mother’s Day Mom!! I don’t know how you do everything that you do, but I love you for it. You’re strength is truly amazing and inspiring. Livestrong mom! That’s what daddy would want us to do. We love you and we’re always here for you!!
(These pics are from my phone. I’ll post the rest as soon as I get them from Gia’s camera).
